Recipe: Homemade Toffee

Homemade toffee is an easy treat to make and makes the perfect gift. Place it in a box or a jar, add a bow, and deliver!
Every year at the holidays we make toffee to give away as gifts.  It’s a staple part of our teacher gift, as well.  It’s easy to make and the kids always help to make it which makes it even more fun.  The best (and worst!) part is that it’s addicting.  You’ll never have just one piece.

Ingredients:
4 sticks of butter (I use salted butter)
2 cups of sugar
1/2 cup of water
2 cups of milk chocolate chips
Directions:
1. Add all the ingredients to a large pot, but have the chocolate chips out and ready to go.

2. Bring ingredients to a boil and keep stirring.  The mixture will become white, bubbly, and foamy.

3.  The mixture will get darker and will eventually turn brown.

4.  When it gets darker, remove the pot from the burner on the stove.

5.  Pour the mixture into a large sheet pan and then quickly place the chocolate chips over the top and spread the chocolate with a spatula.  You may want to spray some cooking spray on the spatula so the chocolate will spread a little more evenly.

6.  Place the pan in the refrigerator to cool.

7.  After an hour, pull the pan back out and then break the toffee into pieces.
I don’t have a photo of this step because the minute I start to break it, little people come to the pan and start stealing pieces.  I need to package it up before they eat it all!

I bet you can’t eat just one bite!
Enjoy it!
