Tutorial: How to make a rainbow wreath…

… out of Gumdrops! I’ve seen these all over the internet and thought it would be cute to put on our front door for Kate’s rainbow birthday party.

Here’s what you need:
a styrofoam wreath
a glue gun
glue sticks (I used about 5)
7 boxes of Gumdrops

1.  Pick a spot on the wreath to begin.
2.  Leave the wreath on the floor or on a table while you are working.  This way you aren’t adding any gumdrops onto the back and it will lay flat when you hang it from a door.
3.  Add glue to the back of a gumdrop and place it on the wreath.  Keep adding gumdrops all the way around the wreath.  Once you start, keep working to fill that entire area in before moving on.  The gumdrops fit together nicely so there shouldn’t be too much space between them.

The white spots aren’t so noticeable in person.  I would suggest taking some spray paint to the foam wreath before starting.  Since the gumdrops don’t have blue or purple in them, I’d spray paint the wreath one of those colors to cover any white spots before starting the gluing process.  This is what it looks like mostly finished.  I want to take a better look at it in the morning (with fresh eyes) and see what holes I can fill in.

I am planning on putting a purple ribbon on ours to hang from the door.  I’ll be sure to post a polished picture when it actually gets hung.

BTW, I know my mom asked so others must be wondering:  I’ve heard that the birds aren’t interested in it at all.  I am hoping.  My biggest worry is that my front door is black and in the sun all day.  I am hoping it doesn’t get mushy!  Stay tuned….
