I wanted to post a recipe this Tuesday. And I did. But not here. I was asked by my friend Elle to guest post on her blog Midwest Elle. So you can find one of my favorite things in the whole world there: A Homemade Ice Cream Cake recipe. So meanwhile, I’ll post a project here today…
Shortly after Caroline was born, I got together with some women from my breastfeeding group to work on a sewing project. I barely knew how to sew at this point but was excited for something to work on. A woman named Ali found this adorable fabric that had squares of the story Brown Bear, Brown Bear by Eric Carle on it. I am sure a quilt or a book could have been made out of it. Instead we cut the fabric into squares and sewed the edges.
There is a layer of batting in between the top and bottom layer. I needed to use pinking shears on the ends so that the material wouldn’t fray.
And although I started this project 2 years, I recently “found” it and finished it this past weekend. Which is a remarkable coincidence because the girls are so in love with this story. So in love, in fact, that we actually have the Brown Bear, Brown Bear game from Target. Here’s a sample of each of the pieces that I have:
The girls have used these pieces in many way already.
*They put them in order to tell the story.
*They “teach” Rebecca her colors, animals, and animal sounds.
*They flip the pieces over and play it as a memory game.
They even took the pieces to church to hold, look at, play with.
I am now on the hunt for new fabric that has some sort of square pattern to it so that I can make another game like it.

Great idea! I'm not sure if the fabric is still available. The shop that sold it closed shortly after we got it. I'll do some searching and email you if I find it.
