Almost two years ago I started a small business. I started sewing in order to save my sanity. During those terrible post partum days, sewing is what brought me a little bit closer to who I was, without being defined as only a mother.
Running a business of your own is incredibly rewarding but it can be very challenging. With this being said, regardless of what you want to accomplish, there is always a way to make an idea become a reality. Even if you’re looking to host kids parties, knowing that companies such as Jungle Jumps custom designed commercial bouncers could help you out when it comes to getting some of the equipment to make this happen. The same goes for any industry you aim to go into. Knowing that there are people out there willing to give you a helping hand can make such a difference.
Staying on top of your utility bills is one of the most important lessons you have to learn early on. One of my friends is a restaurateur so is always looking for ways to save money and cut costs. She recently recommended Utility Bidder to me, so if you are looking for a way to compare different energy suppliers to ensure you are getting the best possible price for your business needs, check out their website.
Since I started teaching parenting classes I am sewing much less. I still have a steady stream of orders but it’s smaller. Small business Saturday gave me a little sewing bug and I spent the day running discounts on my shop’s site and sewing. It felt good.
I decided to keep the sale going through Cyber Monday. Some of the things I have on sale are:
1. No-tie aprons
These things are amazing. My kids never want to help me in the kitchen when I ask them. Nope, they wait until my hands are dirty. It drove me crazy that every kid apron had a tie string on it, when kids can’t tie! So I started making and selling these. Even a 2 year old can get them on over their head. We made these for Kate’s cake decorating birthday party favors.
2. Baby bibs
I love these bibs because one side is made of terry cloth and the other is made with a soft designer fabric. The fabric side looks pretty and is great for drooling but the other side is super absorbent and is great for breast milk, formula, or baby food. I especially love that they have a Velcro closure on the back. Snaps on bibs drive me crazy because I could never do them with one hand. And seriously? When do you ever have 2 hands empty when you have kids?
3. Baby blanket
These blankets have a soft minky stripe fabric on one side and a soft designer fabric on the other. They measure 34.5″ x 28″ so they are perfect for a baby to lay on on the floor, to use over a car seat or in a stroller, and even for older kids in the car. Kate is 6 and still uses hers all the time. She uses it as a lovey when she sleeps or for her baby dolls.
4. Appliqued birthday shirts
These appliqued birthday shirts are done on an embroidery machine. They are simple enough to be worn all year long.
5. Burp cloths
All 3 of our kids were chronic spitters. And by chronic, I mean, they spit up constantly regardless of the fact that they were on some really good medication that kept them from being in pain. Burp cloths became my favorite fashion accessory. I always had one on me. I have a bunch of embroidered burp cloths in the shop but these have an extra layer of absorbency to them because they have fabric down the middle.
6. Snack & Sandwich bags
I’ve been in love with snack bags since Kate was 1.5 and Caroline was 8 months old and we drove to Disney World. These bags are perfect for holding snacks for kids. They have a handle so that you can use a loop clip to their car seat strap or a stroller belt. The velcro closure makes it easy for little hands to open. My kids still use these every day. Now they compromise MANY of them to hold their crayons, Legos, markers, and snacks. These bags are machine washable so you can reuse them for years.
The Cyber Monday sale will continue through midnight, unless I’m in bed and then I’ll disable it on Tuesday morning.
All the items that are on sale are all ready to ship and will go out the next business day. Quantities are limited for these items and they are going fast!

When you support a small business you are giving someone the opportunity of helping them to follow their dreams and their passion. You are helping them put food on their table or helping them pay their electric bill. Shop small businesses as much as possible this holiday season. You can make a difference.
