I know you are reading that title and thinking “Normal? What’s normal?” Well, our family is anything BUT normal. I am married to the most amazing man. BUT, he works crazy, insane hours.
Last week he worked 105 hours. (I don’t keep track or anything…)
Crazy, right? (The hours, I mean, not that I keep track.) BUT he loves his job like crazy and I always remember how much he didn’t like his last one.
His hours include being on call on the weekends. For some reason this weekend, there were NO CALLS. Well, not until late Sunday night and the girls were already tucked into bed. Now, you have to understand that we rarely have a weekend together as a family. And if we do, it’s usually filled with plans to do things and places to go. That’s why this past weekend was such a big deal. We had no plans. Not a one. So we got to function like a normal family.
We did things like going out to breakfast, yard work, home repairs, played board games with the girls, went to church, did some shopping, and cooked dinner together. It’s amazing all the things that we did. Now, don’t get me wrong, when Matt’s working I still do most of these things with the girls (church is a toughie to do alone) but they aren’t as easy as when there are two parents there. I was in heaven.
And today, as I am still basking in the glow of actually functioning like a normal family, my husband is working an 18 hour day. It was nice while it lasted…
