I knew I wanted to make dresses for the family photos we did this summer. I wasn’t sure what exactly I was looking to make until I found the fabric that I used. I adored this polka dot and striped fabric from Joann’s. I almost didn’t see it but it was in the baby/ nursery print section.
I love it because it allowed the girls to have the same dresses without it looking like the same dresses. Coordinating fabric is my favorite!
I decided to use the Ofelia dress pattern from Figgy’s. I’ve used it many times before – it’s so easy! I just use the pattern and make my own variations of the dress. This time I decided to add pockets (my girls LOVE pockets). I got the pocket pattern from Andrea over at Go To Patterns.
To be honest, pockets have always scared me to death. I’ve never done them because I thought they’d be too hard. But Andrea’s direction and concise and easy to follow. I especially love the elastic in the top that gives them a gathered look. I think I’ll be adding them to every dress and skirt I do from now on!
