For Our Front Door

This project was ridiculously easy. Like my-kids-could-do-it-themselves easy. It all started with this pin I found on Pinterest. I LOVED the idea. My favorite Christmas wreath is a red berry one that I bought when we moved into this house 7 years ago. It was sometime last year that I noticed it was less red and more white than it should be. I had some extra garland in the basement and decided that this door hanging would be perfect for my black front door.

I bought a wooden letter G (for our last name, obviously) and started to wrap it up. Somehow, it wasn’t looking the same. The opening in the G wasn’t defined and it looked like a C. It wasn’t until I was writing this blog post that I realized the original posted used a cardboard letter and not a wooden one. The added dimension would make a difference. Anyway, this is what it was looking like:

I remembered I had some green paint in the basement (I am realizing we keep everything in the basement! It’s making me think we should get rid of everything we no longer need and look into something like these basement renovations Toronto and turn the basement in to something more fun for the whole family) from an Ikea table I painted for the playroom. I didn’t think I’d love the color for the front door but it was worth a shot.

I gave it 3 coats of paint, giving it a lot of drying time in between. When I was done, it was looking bright but needed a finish on it. Spraying it with a sealer solved that problem and it was suddenly super shiny. I tied some red glittery ribbon into a bow and attached it to a loop attached to the G to hang it on our front door.

I love, love, LOVE how it came out! It really stands out on the front door.

What do you hang on your front door?

xoxo

I love that!! And I know how busy you are, and want to know when you sleep! 😉 As for my front door- I am in need of something new. I have a metallic gold eucalyptus wreath with red berries and a red plaid/gold velvet bow that I've had for YEARS. Like, probably 16 years!! It's time for it to go, but my "crafty" time is pretty limited!
