For the love of yogurt

Growing up we never ate yogurt.  My mom didn’t like it and so she didn’t buy it.  When I was an adult I tried yogurt but didn’t love it.  I thought it was definitely an acquired taste.  And so I worked at liking it.  I was convinced that it was good for me (and it is, as long as you buy a brand and flavor that isn’t full of sugar and additives) and it was easy for me to eat in my classroom as I was getting ready for the students to come in for the day.

Our kids are quite the opposite.  The girls have been eating yogurt since they were babies.  It was literally one of their first few foods. They ate a container of Stonyfield’s YoBaby almost every day.  Today at 8, almost 7, and almost 5 years old, the girls still love yogurt.  It’s almost always their number 1 breakfast choice.  However, they are really picky about what brand of yogurt they’ll eat and which flavors. I think we might all sit down as a family and learn how to make yogurt and give ourselves a challenge to make some – how is yogurt made? I think that could be really fun!

We buy Stonyfield regularly because they are in love with their Banilla flavor.  Katherine and Caroline, alone, could eat an entire container of it for breakfast if we let them.  Rebecca typically isn’t a fan of yogurt, unless it’s vanilla.  But she will eat Stonyfield’s plain flavored yogurt because it is that good and creamy.

Recently Stonyfield sent me some new yogurts to try out.  I wasn’t sure if they would like them because I know how much they are creatures of habit.  They love their Banilla and weren’t thrilled about having to try a new kind.  I was prepared for Matt and me to have to eat the leftovers.

Oh My Yog! is a different type of yogurt than the Smooth & Creamy that we normally eat.  It has fruit on the bottom.  The girls actually loved them and ate every last one in the house!  I took a video of them trying it and I think they were secretly thrilled to be on video.  Caroline was more “outgoing” in this video than she tends to be in front of other people.  It’s actually kind of cute!  Take a look – I’ve posted it at the end of this post.

If you’re local, Stonyfield carries Oh My Yog! in Wegmans but only currently carries 3 flavors.  If you are wondering where else you can find them, you can look use their Product Locator.

By the way, both girls LOVED them and I’ve added them to our regular shopping list.

As a side note, I LOVE the apple flavored one.  It’s my favorite!
