Conversations…

I was talking to my mom on Christmas Day about a sewing project when all of a sudden she started talking to Matt.  I was kind of kicked out of the conversation – and it was about me!  They were talking about how I have really stuck with sewing.  You see, I am notorious for starting projects, crafts, etc and not finishing them.
I’ve learned to knit, crochet, cross stitch, and scrapbook.  Knitting & crocheting take  f o r e v e r.  I don’t know how people have the patience to do it.  I can do them while watching TV at night but if I am paying attention to something else, I can’t count my stitches.  I actually started a scarf for one of the girls last winter.  It’s still on my night stand.
The most popular joke in my family is the rug I started making in Portugal.  They just refer to it as the “tapete”.  My cousin, Ivette, showed me all the rugs she had made and they were gorgeous.  I expressed such an interest in them that she took me to the store and we bought all the materials to make my own.  It was not easy to bring home all those balls of yarn in my already crowded suitcase.  I am not sure how it happened but I think my mom made magic happen when it was able to fit.
This was in September 1998.  Currently, the rug is still not even halfway complete.  But come to think of it, the yarn is kind of stitched on with a needle so maybe I will finish it one day.  It’s in our basement in a huge garbage bag.  I don’t think I’ve looked at it since I transported that bag into this house when we moved here in 2005.

Anyway, the conversation wasn’t a bad one.  They both said they were impressed.  And I was flattered.  (And a little proud of myself!)  🙂
