Adventures in Lunch

This past week I posted on FB that I received the Easy Lunchboxes that I had ordered on Amazon. I’m hoping they work well for Kate’s lunches at school this year.

I picked these reusable containers because they are “Bento-style” and have 3 compartments. They are also dishwasher safe – top OR bottom rack. That’s a deal breaker for me.

This past year in preschool the girls stayed for lunch once a week and used a Sassy container that was similar. It worked well but was incredibly difficult for the girls to get the lid off for themselves. I was hoping for something a little easier for Kate this year so she wouldn’t be dependent on when someone else could open her lunch.

At first I noticed how big they are. They not only have big compartments (they’ll hold much more food than she can eat), they’ll stretch her Pottery Barn lunchbox out a little near the zipper. I’m not sure how that will work over time.

We’ll be trying them out for the first time today. We’re headed to a friend’s house for a picnic lunch and they are already packed in the refrigerator. I plan on letting the girls carry it there themselves, open it themselves, and carry it back in the house themselves. I’m curious to see how they’ll do opening it and what it will look like by the time it gets home. The directions suggest carrying it flat all the time and that’s just not possible.

I’ll let you know how it turns out! Meanwhile what kind of lunch system do you use for your kids?

xoxo

Hope it goes well! Do you put their drink in the lunch box w/ their meal? That's my biggest issue – a container that will fit with the drink.

I did add a juice box in there and it was a tight fit. Ideally I want to be able to put a water bottle in.
